Opiate Overdose Prevention Information:

  • Opioids include: Heroin, Oxycontin, Methadone, Morphine, Percocet, Fentanyl, and Vicodin. Many of these drugs are prescription medications that may be in your medicine cabinet.
  • All who misuse opiates are at risk of overdosing. It doesn’t matter if they are new or experienced users, or if they snort, inject, or take pills. Using a drug, even one ordered by a physician, in a way that is not prescribed, can lead to an overdose.
  • Learn to recognize the signs of overdose. Every second counts.
  • Contact a State-sponsored overdose prevention program in your area by calling 1-800-383-2437.
  • Get trained in overdose reversal strategies such as rescue breathing & Narcan. Contact a State sponsored overdose prevention program in your area by calling 1-800-383-2437.
  • CALL 911 if you think someone is overdosing. Overdose is a medical emergency.
  • Get support, you are not alone!!

Glossary of Services

  • Detoxification- The process of allowing the body to rid itself of drugs and/or alcohol while managing withdrawal symptoms
  • Transitional Support & Stabilization- Short-term residential program offering Transitional Support Services (TSS) for men and women who require additional stabilization following detoxification
  • Residential Programs- Transitional recovery homes that offer more stability than living independently. A typical stay is six or more months depending on the program.
  • Medical Assisted Treatment- Treatment for opiate addiction that includes counseling and other support.
  • Intensive Out-Patient Therapy- Treatment that provides multiple individual and group counseling sessions. Clients attend IOP 3-4 times per week.
  • Support Groups- Nonprofessional and nonmaterial groups that form together based on a shared issue among members.
  • Community Coalitions- Groups of parents, youth, educators, law enforcement, social service providers, residents, and government officials who aim to create a community-wide approach to improve the health of the community.
  • Drug Court- The name of a weekly session held in a court before a judge. Probation officers, defense counsel, assistant district attorneys and treatment providers appear with drug-addicted defendants whose cases have been resolved by pleas or guilty findings.
  • Recovery High School- Substance free high schools for young addicts are likely to relapse when returning to their former high school. Recovery High School gives students the option to finish their education.
