Ever wonder whoβs behind the welcoming space so many Winthrop kids call their second home? Say hello to Rubin Rubiera β our amazing Board President β who started at CASA the same way many of our youth do: walking through our doors as a teenager looking for connection, support, and a safe place to be herself. π
Rubin joined CASA during her sophomore year of high school as a youth staff member. Even back then, she saw firsthand the positive impact CASA has on Winthropβs young people β helping kids feel included, heard, and supported. Over the years, Rubin stayed close to CASA, eventually joining our board and now proudly serving as Board President. For her, giving back is more than a title β itβs her way of making sure every kid has a safe place to grow.
β¨ Why CASA Means So Much
βWhat I love most about CASA is our commitment to creating an inclusive, welcoming environment where kids can be themselves,β Rubin says. βOur focus on empowering youth and helping them build resilience is something I deeply believe in β and Iβm proud to stand behind it.β
π Bringing Community Values to Life
When asked about her favorite memories at CASA, Rubin smiles:
βI always love our events β movie nights, dances, award shows, day trips. Being surrounded by youth and staff, celebrating all their hard work and growth together β itβs just magical.β
π Moments That Matter
Rubinβs passion for youth and community shows up in every part of her life β even in her work as a pharmacy technician, where she helps people every day. The values sheβs gained through CASA β empathy, service, and communication β shape how she shows up in the world, and she loves passing those same values on to our youth.
π‘ A Place Where Every Young Person Belongs
Under Rubinβs leadership, our board has grown CASAβs programs, partnerships, and outreach. Whether itβs new clubs, fun events, or safe, welcoming after school activities, weβre here to help youth feel like they belong.
If youβre a young person looking for a place to make friends, try something new, or just be yourself β come by CASA! And if youβre a parent, know that your child is in a safe, supportive space where they can grow, connect, and build lasting memories.
Rubin sums it up best:
βCASA has always felt like family to me β and we want every young person to feel that too.β
